Description

SUMMARY:  Assists in providing quality Speech Language Therapy services to individuals under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist.  Assists in identifying, evaluating, and treating speech, voice, fluency and language disorders and disabilities through collaboration with the Speech Language Pathologist, teachers, parents, and other related service providers and for direct intervention with students to assist in providing students the fullest possible educational experience.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Works under the supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist to provide therapy services as prescribed and demonstrated
  • Assists with diagnosis and identification of students with articulation, voice, fluency (stuttering) and/or language delays and disorders using standardized, norm referenced test instruments to include determining type and severity of disorders
  • Assists with speech and language treatment plans to include determining goals, objectives, methods, materials, frequency, duration, and modifications to affected student’s regular classroom
  • Assists with providing ideas to teachers and parents regarding speech and language development and disorders to include determining the needs of the child
  • Deals sensitively with confidential information
  • Refers individuals to community agencies to secure additional resources and services for child and family
  • Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings
  • Cooperates with community health and social welfare programs
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field, and participates in in-service meetings
  • Is involved in the planning and development of additional district speech pathology services
  • Communicates and interacts with other team members, family and school staff, in collaboration with the Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Represents the Speech Therapy Department in IEP and MET meetings
  • Maintains appropriate student records concerning supportive therapy activities conducted, including MIPS related documentation of Speech Therapy
  • Functions according to the SLPA code of ethics and standards
  • Maintains records and documentation required by the Special Education Department
  • Assists and administers standardized tests under the supervision of the Speech Language Pathologist after competency has been established and documented
  • Collaborates in the development of student Individualized Educational Plans and monitors and reports quarterly progress
