SUMMARY: Provides assistance to Head Coach in directing student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in their respective sport. Assist Head Coaches in the planning, organizing, and delivering of an appropriate range of sports activities and programs for individuals and teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in overseeing the sport in a fashion consistent with the Douglas Unified Schools Mission & Philosophy and within the guidelines set out by the Athletic Department
- Assist in planning and organizing all the elements of the sport, including pre-season and regular season preparation, inventory & management of equipment, management of the team during travel away from Douglas and post-game communications for media/website
- Assists instruction and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in football.
- Conduct the coaching responsibilities in a professional manner, setting the example of sportsmanship by your conduct/behavior/decorum
- Motivate your athletes to achieve their personal best in your sport – including attitude, effort, technical skill, conduct, and sportsmanship
- Set clear expectations to the athletes regarding participation in the sport
- Monitor the student’s academic performance to ensure ongoing eligibility to participate in the sport
- Keep the Head Coach and Athletic Director informed, on a timely basis, of any issues relating to the scheduling, practice, game or student participation in your sport
- Keep parents informed, on a timely basis, about program expectations, scheduling and other requirements that pertain to your sport
- Ensure that all equipment is properly inventoried and cared for during the season
- Be familiar with all policies relating to sports at Douglas High School sports handbook and AIA rules, including emergency procedures
- Ensure proper communications with coaching peers, health services (nurse, trainer), Principal/Assistant Principal, and relevant advisors/teachers
- Attends in –service trainings and staff meeting, as needed
- Inspects facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns
- Chaperons/supervises athletic events
- Travels with student athletes on the team bus both to and from games
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of sports programs and expectations
- Knowledge of AIA sports rules and guidelines
- Knowledge of policies and procedures
- Ability to recognize potential health and safety concerns
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies
- Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response
Computer knowledge: General knowledge of computer usage and software and word processing software.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
- Arizona Teacher Certification and/or Arizona Coaches Certificate
- High School Diploma/ GED
- AZ Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Previous coaching experience preferred
- Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment and will be subject to exposure to unsanitary conditions, odors, cleaning chemicals and biohazards.
